Master Riggers Dick Delay, John Lincoln and Maynard Smith will instruct students in the proper use of rigging hardware and equipment. Hands on techniques will be practiced in an arena work setting and in-class time will be spent on calculating bridle lengths. Students will perform the work of a ground rigger, demonstrate the ability to calculate bridle lengths, employ rigging terminology, define communication techniques and show familiarity with knots. Students will be also be instructed in the hands-on techniques of up rigging in an arena setting utilizing industry standard temporary rigging components and utilizing skills acquired during the first day of class.
This course is conducted over two 8 hour days.
Students must be prepared to attend both days. Students must be able to lift 60 pounds. Class size is limited to 15 students.
This class is a requirement of the Local 15 Apprenticeship program for those who have chosen rigging as a craft. “Introduction to Rigging” is a pre-requisite for “Arena Ground Rigging”. Exceptions may be granted by the Lead Instructor(s) based upon demonstrated experience.
Arena Rigging , Session 2 will be held on July 24, 25 in McCaw Hall from 8am to 5pm with a 1 hour walk away lunch each day.
